📍 From Drone, China
Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, is a major city of northeastern China and an important center of Manchu and Qing history. Formerly known internationally as Mukden, it served as the early Qing capital before the dynasty took Beijing. The Shenyang Imperial Palace, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage property, preserves richly colored halls, courtyards, carved details, and glazed roofs that reflect both Manchu traditions and Chinese palace design. Beyond the historic core, broad avenues, modern towers, and remnants of heavy industry reveal the city’s later role as one of China’s leading industrial centers. Photographs often draw their character from this contrast: red palace walls and ornate rooflines set against dense contemporary streets and the changing skyline.
