Seongsan Ilchulbong, located on Jeju Island off South Korea's south coast, is one of the most iconic landmarks of the island. Seongsan is a steep tuff cone formed by hydrovolcanic eruptions during the middle of the Holocene Epoch. The tuff ring is a 4 km circumference, 180 m high and unusually shaped, with 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater. The view from the crater is a breathtaking view of the East Sea, Udo Island, and vast plains. It was also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. Visitors to the site can marvel at its natural beauty, visit its five gates and see the 24-meter-high dense grass hill. The local legend states that this grass hill is the home to a Jumunjin, who brought the wind to Jeju. Moreover, from here, visitors can enjoy the magnificent sunrise and sunsets. The entrance fee to the crater cost 2,000 KRW for adults.
