📍 Spain
Segovia rises on a rocky ridge in Castilla y León, northwest of Madrid, between the Eresma and Clamores valleys. Its UNESCO-listed old city is defined by three landmarks: the remarkably preserved Roman aqueduct, built from unmortared granite blocks; the 16th-century Gothic cathedral overlooking Plaza Mayor; and the turreted Alcázar, perched like a stone ship above the river valleys. Narrow streets link Romanesque churches, arcaded squares and the former Jewish quarter, revealing layers of Roman, medieval Christian and Sephardic history. For photographs, the aqueduct’s repeating arches create strong geometry around Plaza del Azoguejo, while viewpoints across the valleys place the cathedral and Alcázar against the ochre roofs and broad Castilian sky.
