Riomaggiore is a small coastal village in the Cinque Terre region of Liguria in northern Italy. It is the first village of the five that makes up this stunningly beautiful corner of Europe - and as such, it's a great place to start any visit. It's a classic sun-bleached Italian fishing village, with bright multi-colored buildings dotting the hillside, a small harbor filled with bobbing fishing boats, and a wonderful hiking trail with breathtaking views of the Ligurian Sea. Just a short walk away is the Church of San Giovanni Battista, with its enchanting Roman-Byzantine facade, and the nearby castle is worth a look too. Back in the village center, you can explore the winding, narrow alleyways and find some great restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. Riomaggiore also has some great beaches too, making it a great weekend getaway spot. All together, this is a great place to get a taste of the Italian Mediterranean or to simply relax and soak up the sun!
