
The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument in Edinburgh, Scotland, dedicated to the celebrated Scottish author, Sir Walter Scott. Managed by the City of Edinburgh Council, it was built based on the designs of the architect George Meikle Kemp. Standing nearly 200 feet tall, the Scott Monument is the largest monument dedicated to a writer in the world. Visitors can take a winding staircase to the top of the tower which offers spectacular views of Edinburgh and beyond. In addition to its lofty height, the Monument is also known for its ornamentation, featuring 64 statues of people from Scott’s life and works and 190 steps. Visitors are welcome to explore the area of Princes Street Gardens which houses the monument for free, and it can also be enjoyed at night when it's lit up by floodlights.
