Schynige Platte is a mountain ridge above Wilderswil, near Interlaken in Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland. A historic rack railway, opened in 1893, climbs from Wilderswil through forest and alpine pasture to the upper station, making the journey part of the landscape’s identity. Ridge paths reveal the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, while other outlooks take in Interlaken and Lakes Thun and Brienz far below. This contrast between snow-covered summits, green slopes and blue lakes gives the panorama its distinctive depth and scale. Beside the station, an alpine botanical garden showcases the flora of the Swiss Alps in a mountain setting, adding smaller details of flowers and foliage to the expansive views. The railway and garden operate seasonally, so access depends on their annual opening period.
