Schloss Johannisburg is a striking, red-sandstone Renaissance palace perched above the Main River in Aschaffenburg. Completed between 1605 and 1614, it was once the seat of the Prince-Bishops of Mainz. Today, it houses the State Gallery with paintings from Lucas Cranach’s workshop, the exquisite Palace Chapel, and the unique Floodplain Museum.
