Built by an aristocratic Swiss family in 1673, this impressive four-winged structure houses an extensive and varied exhibition of ethnographic artifacts, including vast collections of coins, stamps, medals and photographs. At the entrance to the castle, visitors will be struck by the imposing medieval walls, punctuated by imposing towers and occasional portcullises. The second floor is home to an eclectic mix of art and artefacts, ranging from sculptures and antiques, to photographs and weaponry. The highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the impressive coin collection, which includes examples from Switzerland, Europe and further afield. Schloss Au has also been home to several important cultural events, such as the renowned Pichler's Music Festival, held every summer in Wädenswil and luring visitors from all over Europe. Schloss Au is open all year round, apart from between Christmas and New Year. Visitors have the chance to tour the premises and explore the historical artifacts as part of an interactive educational experience. Guided tours are available and operate according to the castle's opening hours.
