Schillerplatz
📍 Germany
Schillerplatz is a historic square in Stuttgart’s city center, tucked between the Stiftskirche and the Altes Schloss, a short walk from the more expansive Schlossplatz. Its cobbled space is framed by buildings that trace the city’s civic and courtly past, including the Renaissance arcades of the Old Castle, the former granary known as the Fruchtkasten, and the Prinzenbau. At the center stands the bronze monument to poet and dramatist Friedrich Schiller, designed by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen and unveiled in 1839. The statue gives the square a strong visual axis, while church towers, tiled roofs, stone façades, and the castle courtyard entrances create layered compositions. Market stalls and seasonal events periodically add color and local activity to this compact architectural setting.
