Schachtblok, located in Genk, Belgium, is a 19th century coal mining complex that is now an up-and-coming tourist destination. The area offers a stunning view of the mining towers, conveyor bridges and coal preparation plant. There is also a visitor center, a museum dedicated to mining, a covered pool, a disc golf course and an outdoor terrace. Visitors can also explore the original mine pits, ascending more than 600 steps to the top of one of the tallest structures, or take a guided tour of the entire complex. It is the perfect place to explore local history, take in beautiful views, and soak in an atmosphere that is unique to this part of Europe.
