📍 From Inside, Vatican City
Scala del Bramante is a Renaissance spiral ramp in the Vatican Museums’ Belvedere complex, designed by Donato Bramante under Pope Julius II. Its broad, gently rising passage let people and pack animals move between levels of the papal palace. The curve of the ramp and its repeating columns make that practical design especially striking when viewed along the spiral. This is the historic staircase, not the later spiral staircase by Giuseppe Momo that many visitors photograph near the museums’ exit. The original is not part of the standard visitor route.
