Savoca
📍 Italy
Savoca is a compact medieval hilltop village in the province of Messina, Sicily, its narrow lanes and stone houses clustered around a small central piazza. The place is visually striking for the worn textures of exposed masonry and faded plaster, steep stone steps that create layered compositions, and a church that anchors the village square. Savoca gained wider recognition as the filming location of the piazza and Bar Vitelli in The Godfather, so the bar’s façade and the intimate courtyard are photographic signposts. From higher streets there are open views down to the Ionian coast and toward Taormina, so compositions can contrast tight, human-scale alleys with distant seascapes. The village’s compact, preserved layout makes it especially rewarding for detail shots of doors, balconies, and converging lines.
