📍 Italy
Sass dles Diecs, also called Sasso delle Dieci in Italian and Zehnerspitze in German, is a 3,026-metre summit of the Fanes group above La Val in Val Badia. Its Ladin name, meaning “peak of ten,” belongs to a local tradition of reading the surrounding mountains like a natural clock, using the sun’s position above the ridges. The mountain rises sharply from the high Fanes plateau, its pale Dolomite limestone forming steep walls, layered ledges and a compact summit profile. From the valleys below, it stands out most clearly when low light warms the rock and separates its angular face from the gentler alpine meadows and darker conifer slopes.
