São Filipe is the principal town and municipal seat on the west coast of Fogo island in Cape Verde, perched on a gentle slope above a curved bay. Its visual identity combines Portuguese colonial-era houses—whitewashed and pastel facades with wooden balconies—set against strips of dark volcanic rock and narrow cobbled streets. A small fortress on the seaward headland marks the town’s historic lookouts, while low harbors host fishing boats that punctuate foregrounds.
