The Santuario di Santa Maria del Canneto is a small Marian sanctuary on the outskirts of Gallipoli, its name pointing to the reed beds (canneto) that characterize the nearby coastal landscape. The church functions as a local devotional landmark, where modest religious architecture meets salt-air scenery: simple volumes, stone or plaster surfaces and a humble bell element are set against marsh vegetation and the expanse of sea or lagoon. For photographers the appeal is in scale and texture—weathered masonry, grasses and reeds in the foreground, low-angle light that sculpts walls, and the occasional fishing boat or nets that place the building in an active, lived coastal context. Respectful behavior is customary as it remains a place of worship.
