Santa Maria in Trastevere is a Basilica located in the Trastevere district of Rome, Italy. Built in the 4th century, it is one of the oldest churches in the city. The church is located on the western bank of the Tiber River and dominates the area with its tall bell tower. The church has some amazing architecture, including a portico with three arches and columns, a baroque portico with statues of the four Doctors of the Church, and a late-Romanesque façade. Inside, there are a lot of incredible paintings, frescoes, and plaster works to be seen. The basilica is home to many religious relics, such as the marble throne of St. Gregory and the altar of St. Nicholas, as well as a beautiful 15th-century mosaic of the Madonna and Child in the apse. A visit to this church is truly worthwhile.
