Santa María de la Mesa is located in the small mountain village of Zahara de la Sierra in Spain. It is the oldest church in the region, constructed in the 13th century. It has an impressive Romanesque style, with an exterior constituted of ornate lion's heads carved in stone around the entrance. Inside, viewers can appreciate the beautiful dome-shaped ceiling, colorful tile walls and vaulted arches. Close to the church is the local cemetery, which is one of the most picturesque spots in Zahara de la Sierra. Follow the cobblestone streets and explore the stronghold city with its ramparts, towers and lintels dating back to Moorish rule. For a truly unique experience, visitors can plant a piece of paper with their hopes, dreams and wishes on a rosemary plant located in the church garden.
