Santa Maria alla Rotonda
📍 Italy
Santa Maria alla Rotonda is a stunning 16th-century Romanesque church in the small village of Inverigo, in the Como province of Italy. Built in 1514, it stands out among the other churches in the region due to its distinctive silhouette, made up of a round tower, two semi-circular apses and a slender Rectory building. The main entrance stands tall and imposing with a semi-circular arch leading up to a large doorway. The four sides of the tower are topped with a traditional bell-tower. The interior is illuminated by large windows and decorated with magnificent stucco work by the artist G.B. Quadrio. The church has remained mostly unchanged since its foundation, offering visitors a beautiful glimpse into the religious culture of the late Middle Ages. There is also a small cemetery which is worth a visit. Santa Maria della Rotonda is a truly magical experience for any traveler or photographer.
