Santa Margherita Ligure is a small coastal town on the Bay of Tigullio in Liguria, immediately east of the Portofino promontory and part of the Riviera di Levante. Visually striking for its crescent waterfront lined with pastel-faced buildings, palm trees and a busy harbor, the town blends Belle Époque villas, gardened terraces (notably Villa Durazzo) and working fishing boats alongside pleasure craft. Photographers will find strong compositional contrasts: mirrored hulls and rigging in calm morning water, the rhythmic repetition of façades and shutters, textured stone piers and pebble shorelines, plus framed views toward the tree-clad headland that defines the skyline. The compact center is walkable from the station and ferries connect the bay, shaping much of the local activity visible from the quay.
