Sankaty Head Light is an iconic white octagonal tower with a red lantern that has marked the eastern approach to Nantucket Island for centuries. Standing atop a rocky bluff just a short distance from Siasconset Beach, it is an unmistakable beacon of maritime life for travelers sailing off the Atlantic Coast. Built in 1850, it has served to guide ships around the shoals of Nantucket and is an interesting site to explore for history buffs. You can access the lighthouse from the Cliff Road and Stoops Lane, both of which offer spectacular views of the light, ocean and beach. Of course, it's best to visit when the weather is clear to get the most out of your experience.
