๐ From Inside, United States
The Sand Caves, also known as the Moqui Caverns, are a series of human-made chambers cut into a sandstone bluff just north of Kanab, above U.S. Route 89. Created through sand-mining activity, their broad openings now frame the road, desert scrub, and layered southern Utah landscape. Inside, warm orange walls, carved recesses, rippled textures, and alternating bands of sunlight and shadow give the caverns their distinctive visual character. Access involves a short but steep scramble across exposed slickrock, which can be difficult when the sandstone is wet or icy.
