San Xavier del Bac Mission
📍 United States
Bursting with Spanish Colonial design, this historic mission was founded in 1692 by Father Eusebio Kino. Often called the “White Dove of the Desert,” its striking white façade and ornate interior make it a must-see for architecture lovers. Located about 10 miles south of downtown Tucson on the Tohono O’odham San Xavier Reservation, it remains an active Catholic parish offering daily Mass. Visitors can explore the small museum that details its history, admire vibrant frescoes, and light a candle inside this peaceful sanctuary. Free admission, though donations are welcome. Dress modestly, and plan to spend an hour exploring the mission’s beauty and cultural significance.
