San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is an islet located in the Bay of Biscay off the coast of Bakio, in the Basque region of Spain. The islet is connected to the mainland by a narrow stone bridge, which visitors must traverse to reach the hermitage. The hermitage itself is a stunning example of stone architecture from the 10th or 11th century. It is dedicated to John the Baptist, and visitors often light a candle for luck and good fortune. The islet also offers stunning views of the coastline and the North Atlantic. Behatokia Viewpoint, also known as Alto de Karraspio, is nearby, located on a hilltop above the town of Bakio. The viewpoint provides stunning views of the Bay of Biscay and the nearby beach. Visitors can often see up to 10-15 miles in the distance, making it the ideal spot to take in the beauty of the Basque coast.
