Situated on a rocky promontory at the entrance of the San Juan bay, it offers some of the most remarkable views of the city and its harbour. The construction of this fortress started in 1539 and it has successfully defended San Juan from multiple attacks including 19 sieges by foreign forces. El Morro has 6 levels, including watchtowers, barracks, storehouses, and magazines for ammunition. It is open for guided tours and visitors can still find some original cannons from the 16th century. A unique feature of El Morro is the “Garita del Diablo”, an half-moon shaped alcove located at the top of the fortress' walls, which served as an observation post. There is a beautiful beach situated close to the castle, as well as a light house and plenty of restrooms, snack bars and souvenir shops.🗺 MapShow on Map🎫 Tourist attractionsCheck tourist attractions nearby🏨 HostelsCheck hostels nearby🌦 Weather informationGet weather information, and much more, from the app. Download it for free!🚕 How to get there?Get routes information (by car, walking, public transport, etc), and much more, from the app. Download it for free!
