Saltstraumen in Bodø, Norway is a special geological phenomenon located in a narrow part of the fjord. Every six hours, huge amounts of seawater gush through the channels of the strait, creating one of the world’s strongest maelstroms. That liquid power is spectacular – and the whirlpools make an impressive sight. There’s plenty to do and take pictures of – from spectacular vistas of the surrounding area to playful sea eagles flying around - making it a great destination for travelers and photographers alike. The best way to experience the full power of this fantastic sensation is simply to stand there, on the pier beside the strait, and witness the incredible force of nature up close.
