Salto "Las Chilcas" is a roadside waterfall on a tributary near the small settlement of El Abanico in central Chile, where a series of short cascades flow down rocky ledges into clear plunge pools. The fall is visually compelling for the contrast between fast white water and the dark, wet rock terraces that carve the streambed, and it sits framed by riparian shrubs and scrub that reflect the region’s semi-arid-to-temperate transition. Photographically, the site offers two strong motifs: intimate close-ups of textured, water-polished stone and longer compositions showing tiered drops with foreground pools that mirror the cascade; including a human figure at the lower pool helps convey scale. Access is overland from the local road and the scene is readily photographed from both above the crest and near the pool edge, where spray creates delicate highlights on surrounding vegetation.
