Saltburn Pier
📍 United Kingdom
Opened in 1869, Saltburn Pier extends into the North Sea from the beach below Saltburn-by-the-Sea’s cliff-top town in North Yorkshire. It is a surviving feature of the resort’s Victorian expansion, when rail travel brought visitors to the coast. Storm damage has left it shorter than its original length, but its timber deck and repeating iron supports retain the distinctive geometry of a traditional seaside pier. At low tide, the exposed supports form a striking pattern across the broad sands. Looking back from the deck brings the seafront and the water-balanced Saltburn Cliff Lift into view, connecting the pier’s coastal setting with the steep rise to the town above.
