Salamanca Cathedral
📍 From Muralla ROmana, Spain
One of the most impressive Gothic cathedrals in Spain is the Cathedral of Salamanca, located in the city of the same name, in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon. The original foundation of the church dates from the 13th century and over the following centuries, a magnificent Baroque façade, frescoes and Gothic decoration have all been added. The spectacular twin towers can be seen from across the city. Inside, the exterior façade of the cathedral is richly decorated, and the central nave is lined with beautiful marble along the full length of the structure. The four chapels are decorated with outstanding baroque art, beautiful tapestries, and an impressive canopy held up by angels. Highlighted soaring sculptures of the apostles adorn the walls, and the dome is decorated with Renaissance frescoes. To the north-east of the nave is the chapel of Saint Antolin, with its beautiful Gothic altarpieces and a magnificent 16th-century wall painting.
