Sala Capitolare dell'Abbazia is an ancient, captivating gothic abbey located in the medieval village of La Roque-d'Anthéron, which is situated on a hill south of the Alpilles range in the south of France. It is a church of remarkable charm and beauty that has been around since the 1300s. The abbey itself consists of a cloister and a few other buildings, including the vast chapter house, or sala capitulare, which measures 12 meters by 9.5 meters and is distinctly decorated with Romanesque, classical, and Byzantine elements. Inside, visitors can explore and appreciate the ancient frescoes and intricate stonework that adorn the walls, as well as the main altar and its impressive ceiling. Despite its age, the abbey still plays an important role to the inhabitants of the village as it houses a school and a cultural center that offers a variety of activities and music festivals throughout the year.
