Saksun is a small village on Streymoy, set above Pollurin, a tidal lagoon connected to the Atlantic by a narrow channel. Its white church and the turf-roofed Dúvugarðar farmstead stand among steep green slopes, preserving a glimpse of older Faroese rural life. Below the village, dark sand and shallow water mark the changing tide; from across the valley, the buildings look small against the surrounding mountains.
