Saint Théodule Church
📍 From Château de Gruyères, Switzerland
Saint Théodule Church or Eglise Saint Théodule is a medieval church in Gruyères, Switzerland, built in the 10th century. The walls and the Romanesque pillars make it one of the most interesting examples of Gruyère Romanesque architecture. The interior is small but the paintings, frescos and sculptures are of high quality, depicting scenes from the Bible and local legend. The roof is made of dark stone that contrasts nicely with the bright stained-glass windows. The church also houses two original organs, dating back to 16th century, although one of them is a modern replacement. Its nearby cemetery is a tranquil place to explore and it's worth a visit for its stunning views of the Gruyères Castle and the surrounding countryside.
