๐ From Inside, France
Saint-Hilaire, in Melle, France, is one of the most remarkable sites in Poitou-Charentes. The view from the hilltop village is stunning, and it is one of the most photographed places in the region. The village was founded in 1088 by William VII and most of the historic centre is classified as an historic monument. It is an old military stronghold and was an important asset in the Hundred Years War. The church at the heart of the village, which dates back to the 12th century, is also an important feature of this beautiful site. The winding streets of the village are lined with old stone houses, and the square in front of the church is the ideal place to take in the atmosphere of the place. There is an interesting museum and an ancient castle whose walls tell the story of the village's past. The surrounding countryside is also a great place to explore, and walking trails can be found in the woods and meadows to discover the area. There's plenty to explore and admire in Saint-Hilaire, so don't miss out on the chance to take in its charm!
