Saint Anthony’s Chapel Ruins is a fascinating place in Somerset, south-west of Scotland. It was originally built in the 12th century as a medieval refuge for pilgrims, but was eventually abandoned and is now a ruin. The ruins are comprised of remnants of a chapel, a holy well, and various rectilinear enclosures with masonry fragments. The ruin is quite prominent, flanked by two earthenworks of stone ramparts which were built 2 centuries after the chapel. Despite its ruins, this monument offers an imposing sight, which you can explore and wander around. The chapel is listed under Historic Environment Scotland and is suitable for visits all year round. An interesting historical and religious site, Saint Anthony’s Chapel Ruins is a place of great beauty and mystery.
