📍 From Southern Pier, Poland
The Sailing Monument is an impressive piece of modern architecture in the city of Gdynia, Poland - an enormous sculpture of a sail highlighting Gdynia's importance in sailing and its contribution to the country. It stands close to the Orłowo-Klif part of the Kamienna River and was founded in 1993 by the organizing committee of the Polish Roads to Freedom Foundation. The bronze sculpture of the sail is made up of several panels which were welded together to resemble a uniformly curving sail as it was blasted with wind from the sailboat’s mast. The entire sculpture is 80 meters in size and stands tall on the pier, dominating the skyline of Gdynia. The Sailing Monument is also close to a beach as well as some restaurants, giving travelers a great place to relax, enjoy the views and take some photos.
