📍 United States
Sacred Falls is a waterfall deep in Kaluanui Valley on Oʻahu’s windward side, near Hauʻula. Known as Kaliuwaʻa in Hawaiian tradition, the site is associated with Kamapuaʻa, the pig demigod, giving the landscape cultural significance beyond its striking scenery. The cascade drops into a pool enclosed by steep volcanic cliffs, where dark rock faces contrast with dense tropical greenery and emphasize the gorge’s scale. Sacred Falls State Park has been closed to the public since a fatal rockfall in 1999; entry is prohibited, and the former hiking route and waterfall remain off-limits.
