Rush Rhees Library
📍 United States
Rush Rhees Library is the architectural centerpiece of the University of Rochester’s River Campus, facing the broad lawn of Eastman Quadrangle. Opened in 1930 and named for former university president Benjamin Rush Rhees, it remains a principal research library and a defining campus landmark. Its long neoclassical façade, monumental columned entrance, and tall domed tower create a strong sense of symmetry when viewed across the quad. The pale stone takes on warm tones in low light, while mature trees, autumn foliage, and winter snow provide distinctly seasonal frames. Inside, the high-ceilinged Great Hall extends the building’s formal character with arches, chandeliers, and long sightlines.
