The Ruins of Donjon de Rochefort offer a stunning view of the Auvergne countryside. First constructed in the 11th century as a fortress, the site was later abandoned and fell into disrepair. Today, the ruins provide a glimpse into the past with crumbling walls and winding staircases leading up to nowhere. You can get great views of the surrounding landscape from the top of the walls, and if you're lucky, you might spot some animals that make their home in the ruins! Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the ground is often uneven and filled with debris. As there are no visitor services at the site, remember to bring along plenty of water and snacks, and be prepared for the sudden changes in temperature that can occur in the middle of summer.
