Rue du Jardin Public is a residential street north of Bordeaux’s historic centre, named for the nearby Jardin Public. Pale limestone façades and repeated window bays connect its streetscape to the city’s characteristic stone architecture, showing a more domestic side of Bordeaux than the monumental riverfront. The park that gives the street its name was established in the eighteenth century and later redesigned in the English landscape style; its winding paths, mature trees and lake form a green counterpoint to the surrounding stone-built neighbourhood.
