Rudùn, locally called la grande Ruota, is the oversized historic waterwheel that marks Groppello d'Adda’s stretch of the Adda river. Once part of the river’s small-scale hydraulic and milling infrastructure, the wheel remains a tangible fragment of the area’s agricultural and industrial past and of how communities harnessed the river. Visually it reads as industrial archaeology: a broad circular silhouette set against stone and timber supports, with peeling paint, moss and metal patina that yield strong textures. Photographically, low riverside viewpoints capture the wheel’s radial symmetry and its reflection on calm water; framing with the canal banks emphasizes scale and the meeting of engineered lines and natural foliage, especially in soft side light or misty mornings. Access is from the riverbank; the wheel’s static, sculptural presence defines the local riverside scene.
