Rocca di Staggia is an ancient castle ruin situated on a slate hill in the municipality of Staggia in the province of Pisa, Italy. The castle was erected around 1160 by the local noble family, the Cadolingi, as part of a system of fortifications against their neighboring rival town, Volterra. The castle features two large towers with battlements on the top and a massive entrance hall that is said to be still intact. Inside the entrance, there is a “well chamber” that was used to store weapons and ammunition. The walls of the castle are made of yellow stone, while the upper parts are made up of trachyte. There are also some caves in the area that have been used as prisons. Today, the castle is open to visitors, who can explore its ruins and admire the beauty of its surrounding views. Visitors can also learn more about the history of the castle, as it has been the site of battles between the Cadolingi and their enemies.
