The Río Rienza, known locally in German as the Rienz, flows through Brunico at the heart of South Tyrol’s Val Pusteria. Rising near the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and continuing west toward the Isarco, it has long shaped the valley’s settlements and transport corridor. In Brunico, the river skirts the historic center and meets the Aurino, while bridges and riverside paths frame views toward wooded slopes, church towers and Brunico Castle above the town. Its moving water, stone embankments and bands of alpine vegetation create strong foreground lines, especially when the river reflects autumn color or the pale light of winter.
