📍 United States
Richmond’s Triple Crossing sits near Shockoe Bottom and the James River in Richmond, Virginia, where three railroad lines cross at different heights: one at ground level and two on bridges above it. The uppermost line runs along the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway viaduct, completed in 1901, which created the three-level arrangement. The crossing records the city’s importance as a railroad junction and remains a recognizable subject in its industrial landscape. Historic photographs showing trains on all three levels emphasize the unusual geometry; even without trains, the overlapping tracks, steel girders, and bridge supports make the vertical separation of the routes visible.
