Richelieu River is a majestic waterway that flows through the Montreal province of Beloeil in Canada. It is most famously known for being the birthplace of the Iroquois people. The river also holds an immense amount of natural flora and fauna, as well as several key historical structures, including two old fur trading posts, several ancient sites, and some wartime fortifications. The navigable river offers canoeing and boating in the warmer months and is a fantastic wildlife observation point. Its banks are wooded and picturesque, and the river is dotted with well-preserved archaeological sites, like those of the Mohawks, who lived in the area in the early 1600s. Several riverbanks of the Richelieu offer a lovely mix of wetlands, open field, and forests which are great to explore. With many national parks and trails along the banks of Richelieu, people can enjoy picturesque and captivating natural scenery.
