Reichenbach im Kandertal is a small village in the Kandertal valley of the Bernese Oberland, set along the Kander river and framed by steep valley walls and Alpine pastures. Its visual interest comes from the contrast between timber chalets and stone bridges in the foreground and jagged mountain ridges rising behind them, a combination that reads well at different scales. Photographers will find strong leading lines in the river and road, rich textures in weathered wood and slate roofs, and dramatic seasonal shifts—the low autumn and winter light and valley morning mist emphasize depth and scale. The village is compact and photographed best from the riverbank or slightly elevated roadside viewpoints where the valley’s geometry is most evident.
