Rego do Con is a small coastal stream and riparian corridor in Vilagarcía de Arousa that drains into the Ría de Arousa, forming a narrow ribbon of freshwater habitat within an otherwise maritime landscape. Its interest lies in the contrast between cultivated fields, reedbeds and oak fragments along its banks, creating concentrated biodiversity — amphibians, small mammals and a variety of resident and migratory waterbirds use the channel and adjoining wetlands.
Historically the stream shaped local land use: its flow supplied small-scale irrigation and powered modest rural installations, and vestiges of low stone sluices and footbridges remain along parts of the course, reflecting vernacular Galician rural infrastructure. Architecturally modest, these stone features and occasional granite walls give the place a distinct local character. For visitors, Rego do Con is best known locally for quiet riverside walks and birdwatching, especially during migration pulses in spring and autumn when waders and passerines concentrate along the estuarine margins. The corridor is valued by the community as an ecological connector between inland fields and the ria; access is informal via municipal lanes and footpaths rather than formal tourist facilities.
