The Real Parroquia de los Santos Juanes, also known as Sant Joan del Mercat, anchors València’s historic market district beside the Central Market and opposite the Silk Exchange. Established after the Christian conquest on the site of a former mosque, the church retains a medieval Gothic core beneath an extensive Baroque transformation. Its market-facing exterior is especially recognizable for its sculpted stonework, clock, small bell tower and the weather vane known locally as the Pardal de Sant Joan. Inside, the broad vault is associated with fresco decoration by Antonio Palomino. From Plaça del Mercat, the church can be photographed in direct visual dialogue with the ornate market and the late-Gothic Lonja, capturing three distinct layers of Valencian civic and religious architecture.
