Ratusz Staromiejski, Toruń’s Old Town Hall, stands at the center of Rynek Staromiejski, the medieval city’s main market square. Largely shaped in the late 14th century, this red-brick Gothic building brought municipal government and commerce under one roof, reflecting Toruń’s prosperity as a trading city on the Vistula. Its four wings enclose a courtyard, while the square clock tower rises above the surrounding townhouses. Pointed arches, tall window recesses and patterned brickwork give the broad façades a strong rhythm, particularly visible from across the market square. The bronze monument to Nicolaus Copernicus beside the hall adds a recognizable foreground and connects the scene to Toruń’s most famous native. Today, the building houses museum collections, including historic interiors and portraits of Polish rulers; the tower provides an elevated view of the Old Town’s rooftops and churches.
