The Rathausturm is the prominent town-hall tower rising above Rothenburg ob der Tauber’s Marktplatz, part of the municipal complex that punctuates the medieval old town skyline. Its vertical stone form and steep tiled roof create a strong visual counterpoint to the surrounding half-timbered houses, so photos often play that contrast of masonry and timber, rooflines and dormers. Textures — weathered stone, timber beams, clay tiles and cobbles — read well in side light; shooting from the square centers the tower between arcaded façades for a balanced, classic Rothenburg composition. Seasonal snow or low winter sun intensifies the warm tones of the materials and the tower’s silhouette against clear sky.
