Rabil is the principal town on Boa Vista island, Cape Verde, lying inland from the island’s western shore and close to the airport. Its claim to cultural identity is a long-standing pottery tradition: small workshops and family kilns produce terracotta wares that supply local markets and give the town its earthy palette. Visually Rabil is a contrast of low, flat-roofed buildings, sun-baked clay, and palms lining a seasonal riverbed, with dunes and the Atlantic visible beyond. For photographers the textures of stacked pots, the geometry of narrow streets and courtyards, and the interplay of bright sunlight and deep shadows create strong graphic compositions that speak to everyday island life.
