Quimper is a beautiful, historic city in the Brittany region of west France. Founded in the 5th century, it was a major centre and administrative capital of the area. Quimper boasts numerous examples of 15th-century half-timbered architecture, and a spectacular 13th-century Gothic cathedral filled with vibrant stained-glass windows. The picturesque cobblestone streets and squares of old Quimper are full of hidden treasures, from elegant townhouses to interesting boutiques and bars. Visitors should stop by the old Quimper Market, full of local Breton and produce, located in the Place au Beurre – the historic butter market. Also worth a visit is the Museum de Quimper in the renovated 15th century Bishop's Palace. Quimper is also a great spot to learn about Breton culture and heritage, showing off the region's fantastic folk traditions and vibrant Celtic mythology.
